round 9 week 1 [07:08] wrap

February 2nd, 2008 by mojodale

A typical dressing shed after a day in the field.. a few brews, and plenty of chat
from left to right.. Ninja Skittles, Handles, Philbert, Big Willy, Darts, Gillette, Gus, Hammertime

1st grade :: Vs PBC @ Salk Oval
PBC – 278
2nd grade :: Vs PBC @ Newstead Park
LV – 210

:: first grade ::
Gus won the toss.. and based on the way the wicket looked, it was a good toss to win. it looked unprepared, and like a minefield, so we put PBC to the task, and asked them to bat..

once again the opening spell was a cracker, we bowled lines, well bowled areas with no luck again, and i think we let it get to us again.. there were alot of edges, snicks and uncontrolled shots that managed to find the gaps.. PBC rolled on to 2 for 140 odd at tea.. the outfield was fast, and we put in a good effort to keep them to this, knowing after tea a solid effort would put us right back in to the fold..

for mind the turning point of the day (and nothing against the effort of Robo) was new guy Phil philbert Bourke, stepping up to the mark, to take on the keeping roll… he picked up the tempo of the fielding side.. he ran to the stumps every ball, he had encouragement for bowlers & fielders alike.. it was refreshing to see and the team responded accordingly, with a steely effort to rain in PBC and take 8 for 138 to have them all out for 278..

philbert put in the effort of the day with 5 dismissals, and on debut thats a great effort… close behind was fingers with another great fielding display and 3 for 53 in the bowling stakes.. mention should go to all bowlers who toiled away without any luck… Big Willy 2 for 46 including 5 maidens, bowling that awkward line & length.. Hammertime chimed in at the end with 2 for 51.. Catch of the day would undoubtedly go the Gus with an off the ground two hander down at long on..

stay tuned for an exciting finish to this fixture, and watch as the 1st grade boys bat out the day for a come from behind win…
