first grade season report 2009

Date March 17, 2009

Well what a season.. No wins and one draw from 11 games was very disappointing.

Due to injury, work commitments and holidays we never really got our best possible team on the field. We relied on mates, mates of mates to enable us to get 11 on the field which as we know didn’t always happen, 9 players against Alberton in round 7.

To be fair we had our chances to win, we didn’t take them.

Against Runaway Bay r1 they were 6-80 chasing 158, Helensvale r2 – chasing 139 we were all out 85 umpire cost us with disgraceful decisions against batting top order & bowling, a report was sent to officials, Mudgeeraba r5 top 4 team all season won with one over to go in one dayer chasing 180 we were one man short in the field, Coomera r6 we only got 90 odd on a seaming wicket which both myself and opposition captain thought was a batting paradise, from 3-30 overnight we had them 9 down when they got the points, Queens r8 175 on the board damp outfield the next week cost us i elected to play in the spirit of the game, Surfers Paradise r9 we made 185 & at tea we were cruising 3-130 before collapse & washout 2nd week, Broadbeach r10 we scored 4-175 off 40ov should have been much more due to poor running between wickets, missed chances they won with 5 wickets down and finally r11 against minor premiers Southport we had them 7-107 missed chances enabled them to get 217 and unfortunately we crawled to 6-155 off 75 overs with team tactics thrown out the door. From 2-52 off 23ov to be 3-67 at tea off 44ov we were digging a hole for ourselves and unfortunately when robbo retired 51 due to ill health after batting 68ov with score at 5-130 a massive hole had been dug & therefore season over. Eight games maybe 48 points semi finals instead of minus 1 would have been nice. My old coach at souths Ian Seib used to say “good sides win the close ones” how true that is.

There were good performances throughout the season.. Steiny’s 31 wickets with three 5 wicket hauls inc a 6-36. He’s a fella that gives his heart and soul on the field everytime, Best Bowler on coast IMHO. His batting didn’t get going this year. JC’s lion hearted performances with one 5 for probably tried a little too hard but line & length really improved & should have had more wickets with a bit more luck. Johnny’s mediums need work time will tell, Skeety’s variety was deceptive, Jimmy & Gus shared the offies up & down. JL’s leggies should come to the fore next season. Our batting was up and down Robbo batted well as our new opener with a couple of 50’s, Jimmy had a shocker with some bad decisions much better player one of the best on coast, Skeety got some starts without making teams pay his time will come, Gus the same got some starts shows team what ticker is all about a huge asset in side, Bourkey got a couple of starts gotta back himself more, as for myself seven scores between 23 – 66 with one 50 an average season could have been much better, Johnny & LD (aldi) need more time in middle for confidence to come in pressure situations. Fielding has to improve catches win matches but gotta train though.

Thanks again for the teams support, to Pimmy not an easy job picking teams, nyesy’s work & advice at training was invaluable & as always Muschy’s pitch prepartion of the highest standard.

Bit of luck see ya next season Razor.
