wests v logan village match ends all tied

Date September 16, 2008

On Saturday, 6th September Logan Village CC played Western Districts CC (Brisbane) a trial match in whats to be an annual event..

It was a glorious spring day, and Wests were sent into bat by Logan Village Captain Jason Handles Stein, with the view to setting the Kookaburras a reasonable total. Having been quite damp during the week, scoring wasn’t going to be easy. This certainly proved to be the case with Wests finishing the 50 overs, on 9 for 100.. We started the innings with the help of two Wests bowlers, Dan, and Matt Gold… The bowling was top class, and proved very hard to score from.. At this stage I want to remind you that West, (1st Grade) are the reigning QCA Premiers..

I can’t remember the exact figures, but bowling honours go to Handles Stein, Dan the Windmill, Matt GoldieGold, Jason Lift your kneesClarke, and John Tags McTaggart bowled well frustrating Wests in silly strokes… Highlight of the day for the silly shot, was a young Wests batsman (who shall remain nameless, cause i can’t remember his name), tried to smash an extremely short first ball for six over square leg, and only managed to sky it over 3rd slip, where an outstretched Lawso took an absolute screamer.. catch that is..

After only scoring 100 runs, West were very keen to prove that this was some lucky bowling effort and that they could restrict the Kookaburras to something less than 50… Well they were in for a shock.. Lawso helped the Village off to a solid start, battling his way to 15. The bowling was extremely tight, and loose balls were a premium, and Lawso wore a few of the open barrage on his big body (i’m sure there were a few bruises).. After a solid start, Handles Stein carried on with a solid effort of 36 (highest score of the day) ably supported by Wallywith another solid 20..

After a great team batting effort we came to the final over at 5 for 95, needing 6 to win… Robbo giving it a Stirling effort needed 3 off the last ball, could only manage 2, which left the score tied on 100.. To be honest this was a fitting result for a great game…

I would like to thank the Craw umpiring the day, and the folks from WDCC for coming to Logan Village for this trail match.. Thanks to Pimmy for cooking the lunch BBQ (food supplied by Gainsborough Greens)..
