Logan Village – 3rd Grade One

LVC 109, LVC 1/109 def by HVL 6/277dec
Logan Village won the toss on what looked like to be a great day heading into round 2. Three hours later, Logan Village were left to rue what might of been. Batsman throwing there wickets away at regular intervals hurt the side, and its something the Village will have to look at if they want to have a crack in the finals.

At the top of the order, Growden struggled, then seemed to find some touch, only to be out shortly after. Ludwig looked to be in ominous form, till Applebee knocked his castle over. Newman top scored with 18, and was out when the score was only 73. Impressive efforts from Brad Inch, Jim and David Coppock got the score over 100. Warney impersonator Parsons took 4-33 to really give the home side a huge lift going into their innings.

Helensvale opened their innings with a bang, runs were coming at a decent rate. Travis Martin bowled a lot better than his figures might suggest. He bowled with plenty of fire and hurried a lot of the batsman.. This was promising to see. Fraser went early, and then came in Dan McMahon. McMahon came in using the unusual method of hitting everything towards the shortest boundary on the field, and really got his team into a great position. Conrad Dickson was also there at the close, and at 1/99, Logan Village knew at some point during the second week the game was going to be about survival.

Second week and the Village pick up McMahon early courtesy of a Brad Inch inswinger. This kid could do alot, so keep watching him. Sadly, he should not be allowed to drive to cricket ever ever again . Conrad Dickson really took over from this point and in the end contributed 140 runs out of the 277. Well done Conrad on a great knock. At this point Helensvale declared leaving the Village a nasty little session to avoid an outright defeat.

Applebee was again bowling with fire and when he had Ebrington caught in the gully, there would of been a few Logan Village players getting worried. Luckily, for us, that was the last wicket to fall. Jason Lawrence (62 not out) and Nathan Growden (34 not out) added 91 for the second wicket in good time to get us out of trouble. Play was called a couple of overs early when Lawrence lost a ball that in all liklihood was taken by Gator’s. Don Sexton went in to find the ball, and at last contact we couldnt find him either.

The game was played in great spirits between both teams.

Good luck Helensvale, and to the Village…..

CMON LETS LIFT AND SHAKE THIS COMPETITION UP!!!!!

Logan Village – 2nd Grade

LVC 9/250d, LVC 4/92 def CHI 131

Smithy won his first toss of the season, had no hesitation in batting first on what looked to be a green top road.. After a steady start, Smithy played his trade mark pull shot one to many times, and was caught at fine leg for 12.. Ray joined Dale at the wicket, and they batted with aplomb and much purpose, putting on a well compiled 92 runs.. Just before the tea break, Lawso played at a great leg cutter, and tickled one through to the keeper for 45. Skeeta joined Ray, and together they put on another 40 odd runs before he was bowled for 13 (unlucky for some). Shortly after, Ray copped a straight ball, rapping him on the pads, and he was out LBW for a cracking 73.. Today Ray, showed guts and controlled aggression to knock out 73 runs, and to help us put a defendable score on the board.

Once again as they did in round one, the Brothers Walton (David & Greg) put on another 1/2 century partnership to take the score to over 200.. James Eddie finished on 16no, and for the first time in 3 years, we had batted out the day and the 75 overs.. Finally, the top order batsmen played a selfish brand of cricket, protecting their wicket, and getting to the second drinks break with wickets in hand.. this allowed the lower order to have a poke and push the score to a well deserved 250. Unfortunately the umpire misunderstood when the close of play should be, and we missed out in putting Comera Hope Island back in for 20mins..

Week 2 will be remembered for the 16over (straight) spell from Jason Clark, who, almost single handedly ground CHI’s scoring to a halt.. At tea CHI were 5/51 off 39overs.. Jason had the figures of 16overs, 2/20.. A wonderful display of line and length bowling, and had it not been for the poor catching, could of had a few more wickets. We dropped 6 catches, something we will have to work on before the next game. Jason was ably support by James Eddie with 2/42 off 17, and Wally cleaning up the tail with 2/4 of 2.2 overs. In the end CHI could only manage 131, with the help of a hulking 14year who belted 35 including 3 massive sixes.

With 20 odd overs left in the day, Captain Smith reversed the batting order, and to great effect.. Aaron Johnson finished the day with 43no, and the team 4/92 off 19overs.

Apart the from dropped catches we put in a polished performance with bat and ball.. If we can maintain this sort of form, we will definitely be a showing in this years competition.

Logan Village Gold won the toss & elected to bat. After getting off to a quick start getting to 38 in the 4th over, we lost Paul Smart for 13 & Ted Tishler for 0 to be reeling at 2 for 42. Three overs later we lost Terry Ware for 10, and at that stage we were a very shakey 3 for 65. This brought together Shane Conradi & Phil Coulson who took the score to 4 for 141 before Phil was bowled & Shane was caught for 39 & 38 respectably. Now 6 for 141, and further hiccups saw us get to 9 for 163 before Des (Jacko) Gibbs & Jeff Beerman put on a very valuable 42 for the last wicket, which allowed to get 205 off 33 overs. Unfortunately, we gave away a bonus point by getting out before the end of the 50 overs.

Alberton Blue started well, but LVG soon had things under control with great bowling from John Beerman 3 for 26 off 7 & Daniel O’Loughlin 3 for 22 also off 7. At one stage Alberton looked like they were fighting back, before a great spell of bowling from Des (Jacko) Gibbs. He took 1/4 off 3 overs to get rid of the Alberton dangerman. In the end Alberton were dismissed for 119 in the 27th over, earning us a bonus point.

Great effort guys .

Captain Conradi

Logan Village 2nd Grade

Southport Labrador won the toss and elected to bat on what looked to be a greentop. On a hot spring day, we took to the field we a renews excited that a new season brings.. The first session (till drinks) was tough going, with SPL getting away to flyer, and no wickets falling.. After drinks Mr Jason Clarke help to reign back in the run rate, and was also on a hat trick with two ball tearer deliveries knocking back the off stump of successive SPL batsmen. At one stage we had them 6/123, and we were holding our catches..

After tea we went to sleep and dropped a few catches (was I, Dale was a culprit), and SPL got away to 274 before their final batsmen was count on the boundary by multiple catch taker Lawso. Lawso took two very good catches(Gully), along with Smithy (Wicketkeeper) & Greg (2nd Slip). Had we been able to hold the other catches i’m almost certain we would held last years Champions to 200..

Apart from that, we put in a solid fielding and bowling effort, with Jason Clarke taking 4/58 off 20, and Gavin Skeet taking 5/56 off 15.2. Shane Newman & Aaron Johnson also chipped in with a wicket each.. I think we have a long batting line up, and with a solid effort, we should be able to run down this total, but it won’t be easy.
